NEWLAST AT 2019 ENOVATE CONVENTION IN COLOMBIA

The fifth edition of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology Convention organised by the Centro Industrial Del Diseño y La Manufactura (SENA) took place in Bucaramanga, Colombia on the 16th and 17th of October 2019.

The event, named ENOVATE 2019, saw a variety of conventions, cultural and fashion shows, business projects, challenges, contests, and gathered the best experts in the research, innovation and technology development. The goal was to introduce new strategies and the highest technologies to the local manufacturers to increase the competitiveness of the area.
Newlast was invited to talk about the Footwear industry.

During the convention, our Eng. Alfredo Di Domenico explained to a very interested audience how “a quality shoe last is essential to create a quality shoe”.
“The way to take the Colombian footwear sector to a higher level goes undoubtedly through the innovation process in the shoe last production; first of all, it is crucial to leave the inaccuracy caused by manual modifications on the shoe lasts during prototyping and production behind. It is essential to get familiar with CAD systems and the newest digitalisation and turning methods.

For example, the toe-ends are very difficult to repeat, both manually and with mechanical machines.

An expert model maker surely can perfectly create the first pair of shoe lasts, but, despite any great manual skills, it is impossible to repeat it for several times without any differences. As a result, the necessity to rely on NC machines. The repeatability of the shoe last is an imperative request of worldwide big Brands.”

The SENA and other local Universities involved Newlast in an important project for a possible of a training course focused on shoe last prototyping with the aid of these advanced technologies.
